About Us
Connecting Caring Communities, a comprehensive community initiative, works to restore the foundation of safe and caring communities by rebuilding the system of caring relationships. We bring together caring partners from all walks of life. Why? Because we believe true community renewal changes the world-one neighbor at a time.
Established as an independent nonprofit organization in 2005, CCC is today bringing renewal throughout Abilene. We are modeled after the highly-acclaimed efforts of Community Renewal International, founded in Louisiana in 1994 by Mack McCarter.
The CCC model includes three strategies:
Caring Team
The Caring Team works citywide to unite businesses, churches, civic groups, residents and others as caring partners building a stronger city.
Haven House
Haven House volunteers unite neighbors on the block where they live. Identified by a “We Care” sign in their yard and equipped for effectiveness, Haven House leaders may host block parties, take meals to a sick neighbor, help find a lost pet, share garden produce or just offer a listening ear.
Friendship Houses
These are homes build in vulnerable areas and lived in by CCC staff-families who help turn impoverished neighborhoods into havens of hope. These houses build the foundation for economic growth by increasing the capacity of residents in the neighborhood and serve as a platform to bring resources for health, education, and housing to residents. Other agencies and community partners work with us in this life-changing outreach in Abilene’s neighborhoods.
